One good milking cow can change a family’s day. The children drink milk, and the milk that is left over is sold for a small daily income.

A milking cow gives a family milk to drink and milk to sell, for a daily income.

﴿وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةٗۖ نُّسۡقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِي بُطُونِهِۦ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ فَرۡثٖ وَدَمٖ لَّبَنًا خَالِصٗا سَآئِغٗا لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ﴾
“And indeed, in livestock there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink from what is in their bellies, from between digested food and blood: pure milk, pleasant to those who drink it.”

A crossbred cow that is in calf or has just calved, so milk starts straight away.

Shed and first feed

A simple shed, with feed and minerals for the first months.

Insurance and care

An ear tag, insurance, vaccinations and visits from a vet.

Pass on the gift

The family passes its first female calf on to another family in need.

These cows are for milk and income only. They are never used for Qurbani or sold for slaughter, and each family agrees to care for its cow for life.

نِعْمَ الْمَنِيحَةُ اللِّقْحَةُ الصَّفِيُّ مِنْحَةً، وَالشَّاةُ الصَّفِيُّ تَغْدُو بِإِنَاءٍ وَتَرُوحُ بِإِنَاءٍ
“How excellent a gift is a camel giving plenty of milk, or a sheep giving plenty of milk: a bowl in the morning and another in the evening.”
